KILLED IN PILOT TRAINING USAAF 1943

Here are three framed letters written to Mrs. Ruth M Morris about the death of her aviation cadet son Herman Gilbert Jr. killed during training. The first letter of May 8th from the Chico base Chaplain Robert A. McKain expressing condolence. The second letter is from the War Dept signed by G Marshall (original ink signature) Chief of staff offering sympathy to Mrs Morris. There is a officers shirt collar wing and prop pressed into the bottom of the frame. The third letter is from the Army Air Force West Coast Training Center signed by Major Thomas A. Lee of the Air Corps sending Mrs Morris a full size Pilots Wing that he son would have received upon gradation. The wings are pin back and pressed into the bottom of the frame. I purchased this set around 40+ years ago when I started collecting WW2 KIA Purple Hearts. Just thought how sad to volunteer and not make it to the bid dance. Condition Good++++
